Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
During its 53 year history Troop 1006 of Second Baptist has helped to develop more than 25 Eagle Scouts.
Boy Scout Troop 1006 began at SBC 53 years ago. One Charter Member who was there when it started remains a charter member today. His name is Leo Moore. The troop is now run under the leadership of Scoutmaster Kenneth McFeders, Assistant Scout Master Hakeem LaBlance, Committee Chair Betty Brown and Jeff Terry, the Charter Organizational Representative (COR).
It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America and at Second Baptist Church to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the Values of the Scout Oath and law.
The Scouting program works toward three aims:
- Growth in Moral strength and character, defined as what the boy is – his personal qualities, his values, his outlook.
- Participating citizenship – citizenship in this case means the boy’s relationship with others. He comes to learn of his obligations to other people, to the society he lives in and the government that presides over society.
- The development of physical, mental and Emotional fitness.
In addition to the Boy Scouts for ages 10 1/2 or 11 up to 18, there is a Cub Scout Pack for boys starting at age 7 or second grade.
The mission of Cub Scouts is to show respect and appreciation for everyone who helps with the pack. They will be courteous and show good manners at den and pack meetings. The SBC Cub Scout Pack is Pack 4006 and it is headed by Cub Master Ronald Rose, Den Leader Rhonda Leapheart, Committee Chair Betty Brown and Jeff Terry the Charter Organizational Representative (COR).
Both Pack 4006 and Troop 1006 are looking for new members. If you or someone you know is interested please contact.
